Progress Towards Development of an HIV Vaccine: report of the AIDS Vaccine 2009 Conference - May 2010

Steady advances are being made in the search for an HIV/AIDS vaccine, according to a new overview of research presented at the AIDS Vaccine 2009 Conference published in the May 2010 edition of The Lancet Infectious Diseases.

AIDS Vaccine Literacy (VaxLit) Toolkit Available Online

IAVI has provided electronic access to its recently updated Vaccine Literacy (VaxLit) Toolkit. The VaxLit Toolkit is a comprehensive set of educational and training materials about AIDS vaccine development and clinical trials, developed in collaboration with a number of IAVI’s partners. UNAIDS issued the 79th issue of HIV This Week.  The issue covers:  alcohol and unsafe sex, test and treat,maternal mortality,cost effectiveness, treatment, injecting drug use, universal access, reproductive health, herpes and HIV, tuberculosis, men who have sex with men. comorbidities, impact, basic science, and structural interventions. The Foundation for AIDS Research and the Treatment Action Group Issue Brief Calling for Increased NIH Funding

AmfAR and TAG issued a brief, The Sound Investment: The Multiplier Effect of AIDS Research, which states that in FY2011 and future years, Congress must redress five years of flat funding for NIH by significantly increasing overall NIH appropriations to take advantage of growing scientific opportunity in health research.  The full brief is available below.
